New-Old-Stock Zeus (3/32″) Alloy Chainring (52T and 119 mm BCD)…Heavy Shopwear

New-Old-Stock Zeus (3/32″) Alloy Chainring (52T and 119 mm BCD)…Heavy Shopwear Thank you for your interest in this item and please visit our store for other offerings. We have very reasonable shipping terms and combine orders to save money (for customers) on shipping costs. We also maintain customer friendly return/refund/exchange policies. Product Description: This offering is for a new-old-stock (but heavily shopworn) Zeus aluminum alloy 52T chainring with a bolt-circle diameter (BCD) of 119 mm. This BCD sizing has been out of current production for a number of years and as we understand it, this BCD sizing is proprietary to the vintage Zeus crankset. As a result, we are guessing there are very few available in today’s market (with this BCD), especially in new-old-stock (albeit heavily shopworn) condition. We have not had the opportunity to acquire many Zeus branded components, but we believe such components to be at or near top-end coming out of Spain. Some colleagues would comment they rival Campagnolo quality from the same era. I don’t know if that is true, but I think most would agree vintage Zeus components would be part of the discussion. We also want to confirm this is a derailleur compatible chainring with the relatively standard beveled teeth that measure 3/32″ thick…and we confirmed this measurement with our calipers…as the teeth clearly measure about 2 mm thick (or 3/32″) at their base. Please also note these large chainrings appear to pre-date many of today’s design features typically found on larger chainrings…so there are no shift ramps/pins and no chain guard pin…just the traditional beveled teeth. Lastly, I see front-side chamfered (grooved) chainring bolt-holes that will ensure a flush mount of the chainring bolts (not that this is a huge deal, but the feature does make for a cleaner cosmetic look). With respect to cosmetic condition, the chainring rates as poor…with heavy shopwear (scuffs and scratches, as evident in the close-up pictures to the left). Functionally, however, the chainring is new and unused, as the teeth show no visible signs of wear. I can also confirm the chainring pictured is the next one to ship, as I have a couple of these left in stock. Listing Update…this is my last one in this model/size/finish. Note to international customers regarding shipping… We apologize to those that feel some of our international shipping charges are too high. We only charge actual shipping rates, but once an order exceeds a certain amount, we hesitate to use the least expensive US Postal Services First Class International service. We feel this way, because this service is not trackable or insurable…so more risk of loss. We prefer the US Postal Services Priority Mail International service for more expensive orders, because this service is trackable at USPS.com and insurable…so less risk of loss. Unfortunately, this service is more expensive, especially for smaller/lighter packages, relative to the First Class International service. We are sorry about these higher shipping costs, but hopefully our notes help to explain why this is the case. Note to international customers regarding customs… We also apologize to those that feel their country import taxes, duties and brokerage fees are excessive. As a small US business, we are required by customs’ laws to declare each order as a retail sale. Additionally, the declared order value must be equal to total store purchases and/or winning auction bids (less any shipping costs, as these are not considered in the declared value). As a result, each customer will be responsible for paying his/her own country taxes, duties and brokerage fees, which will be collected upon delivery. Again, we apologize for these additional costs, but we cannot afford the penalties and fines that come with breaking customs’ laws…so we have to strictly abide by them.

New-Old-Stock Zeus Racer Hubset…36-Hole w/126 mm Spacing

New-Old-Stock Zeus Racer Hubset…36-Hole w/126 mm Spacing Thank you for your interest in this item and please visit our store for other offerings. We have very reasonable shipping terms and combine orders to save money (for customers) on shipping costs. We also maintain customer friendly return/refund/exchange policies. Product Description: This offering is for a new-old-stock Zeus Racer hubset in a silver finish. It’s a very good quality 80’s hubset and detailed specifications include the following… Hole count (front/rear): 36H / 36H Locknut dimensions (front/rear): 100 mm / 126 mm Cluster compatibility (rear): English threaded for 5/6/7-speed freewheel (see supplemental note below) Axle type (front and rear): hollow type with matching quick release skewers Weight (front and rear): 546 grams Other specifications: We had a few customers specifically ask about the compatibility of vintage Suntour freewheels with these hubsets. As a result, we threaded a few different Suntour freewheel models on this rear hub and noted no problems. I should also confirm we threaded a Suntour ultra (narrow) 7-speed freewheel on this rear hub and there was enough space to accommodate this freewheel. So as we mention above (and discuss in more detail below), the rear hub that is part of this hubset should have enough drive-side spacing to accommodate just about any 5/6/7-speed freewheel. We have not had the pleasure in dealing with many Zeus bicycle parts over the years. Although, when we inquire of those that do, the one general comment that we hear is that Zeus was the premier maker of bicycle parts in Spain. I mention this, because even a cursory inspection of this vintage hubset lends support to this claim. It’s a shopworn hubset, but the higher end “fit and finish” is still evident. I understand Campagnolo is generally considered the European benchmark for vintage (and current) bicycle components, but I would contend this Zeus hubset compares to some Campagnolo offerings from the same era. I am not exactly sure where this Zeus hubset would best match-up on the Campagnolo hierarchy of product offerings, but it’s in the discussion. As alluded to above, this is a shopworn hubset (so there are scuffs and scratches in the silver finish). Although, functionally, I see no problems in the sense that the threading on the rear hub is fine and none of the spoke holes show evidence of previous lacing. I should also confirm this is my last hubset in this model/finish and I’ve updated the pictures to reflect this last offering. A note regarding threaded rear hubs/freewheels… We’ve received a number of compatibility questions concerning the number sprockets on a freewheel (i.e., 5, 6 or 7-speed freewheel compatibility) relative to available space on a rear hub. It’s been our experience that when dealing with vintage road bike rear hubs, 5-speed or ultra (narrow) spaced 6-speed freewheels will generally mount on rear hubs with 120 mm locknut-to-locknut spacing. The freewheel options tend to expand when the locknut-to-locknut spacing increases to 126 mm. In the latter case, we’ve had good success mounting 5, 6 or 7-speed freewheels. Another thought hear is freewheels with a narrower footprint (i.e., 5-speed or ultra spaced 6-speed models) will leave larger gaps on rear hubs with 126 mm spacing…so some rear derailleur limit screw adjustments will most likely be necessary to avoid overshifts off the high or low gear (small or tall sprocket). Lastly, we want to mention the aluminum alloy threading on most rear hubs is generally fragile…meaning that any inadvertent cross threading can present a problem, so this is one of those areas where we are always careful and take a little extra time.
