Product Description: This offering is for a new-old-stock Dia-Comp single pivot (side-pull) brake caliper. We estimate their reach to be in the 45 mm to 59 mm range, depending on where the brake pads are slotted (and we measure the reach from the center of the top bolt to the center of the brake pads). We should also note the shiny silver still shows fairly well and I get a digital postal scale weight of 152 grams. These calipers are probably no better then an entry-level offering, but they are still a fairly rare item, as each one is designed to accept the old-style (non-recessed) mounting hardware (and this hardware is included). The problem, however, is the usable mounting bolt-length. Once we strip off all the spacers, washers, etc., there is only about 32 mm of free bolt length to mount the caliper. This is generally adequate for the rear brake caliper, as the brake bridges on most old style frames are relatively narrow. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the front brake caliper, where a longer mounting bolt is needed to span the gap from the front of the fork crown to the back of the fork crown. As a result, please carefully measure the minimum bolt length needed for a particular fork crown, before considering one of these offerings as a front caliper option. One other related note…we have two different sets of spacers that came with these calipers. A thicker set of spacers with a more exaggerated (concave) curve and a narrower set of spacers with a less exaggerated (concave) curve. This offering includes the thicker set of spacers, as best illustrated in the last (fourth) picture in the sequence to the left. As a result (and just to confirm), this offering is generally best suited for those rear brake bridges that require the traditional non-recessed (acorn nut) mounting hardware. These calipers came to us in bulk packaging, so please expect some shopwear on each offering, but overall their condition is still not too bad.
